Trolling question

Not sure if there is a correct answer to this question. Just bought a new boat with a 90 hp. 4 stroke merc.. Going to lake erie the first week of Aug. to fish and family vacation. My question is can i troll with this motor without damaging it. Not quite familiar with pulling drift sock/bag to reduce speed for trolling. Will this paly with the rpm's? Obviously i dont want to do any damage to the motor, however i was wanting to troll for walleye while i am there. Before i go spending more money on trolling equipment i wanted to see if anyone here has an opinion/suggestion on this matter. Thanks in advance for any comments/ideas. Mike

Yes you can troll with it and no damage will be done. You may have a little trouble going slow enough, but the drift sock will help.

take some 5 gallon buckets, drill some 3/8" holes in the bottom and where the handles go on. tie ropes to the handle holes and put on each side of the boat. enjoy. you should easily be able to go 2-4mph for trolling

another good method is slow drift trolling with a crawler harness. you would be surprised how many fish you can catch going slow. i frequently fish for muskies trolling from my 10' john boat going just fast enough to keep the spinner blades turning. works well for trout too
