I'm picking up a new '05 Trophy 1802 Walkaround w/ 125 Merc on it. Stepping up from a Lowe 16' aluminum bass boat I've had for 10 yrs. The boat will be trailered, seeing mostly freshwater use with the occasional trip to the Chesapeake.

Anything to watch out for on these boats? Know issues? Special preventative maintenance measures?

Re: Trophy 1802 WA, what to watch?

erikrs, I have an 04 1802 125 merc saltwater and a couple of minor things that might be the same from that year.
The fuel and water lines are held on by plastic wire ties, 2nd time out a fuel line tie broke off.another time flushing out the motor a water line came off.
I Changed all the plastic ties with regular ole hose clamps.
one other thing that might be the same is the drainage,
There are two drains up top that go into two more drains below in the rear bilge pump ,make sure the drain holes below where the bilge pump is dont get clogged up with debrie.
if they get clogged they will fill up and overflow under the floor of the boat and eventually make it up front to the berth and wet the carpet in the berth,
Other than that its a good boat and motor,
i love mine, good luck with your new toy

Shouldn't you have asked that question before you bought the boat?

Shouldn't you post relevant information.

I already knew what I was buying, just looking for little issues that can be resolved before I putting it on the water.

springhead, thanks for the info! I'll keep an eye on those drains, maybe make some kind of screen for them and check the hoses before ever taking it out.

Always someone pissing in the punch bowl.

My father has the same setup, 2 bildge pumps went bad so far plus one float switch.
Had the same issues with clogged drains as posted above

I'm not "pissing in anyone's punch bowl", Major Woods. How often do we see people on forums saying "I just bought a so-and-so boat. Should I be concerned? Are there any defects with this model?"

A responsible boater does a ton of research before spending a LOT of money on a depreciating asset like a boat, and already knows the answer to the question when he signs the bill of sale.

Obviously you and the original poster disagree.

I have had the same drainage problems with my 2005 1802. It was not the stern drainage that got clogged but the midship drainage tunnel that got clogged. I never could clear it from the stern drainage hole. I then drilled a hole in the front stringer right behind the front bilge pump so that is all dumped into the front and is cleared with the front bilge pump. I should now be able to use this hole to clear the clogged one when I put it up for the winter.
