It's called low speed wander. A lot of boats do it. Trim tabs (not smart tabs) will help quite a bit.

A boat, floating on the water, needs movement to steer. The faster the boat is moving, the better, quicker, and more precise the steering. When moving slowly, the boat takes more time to react to the direction of the outdrive or rudder, in your case, the outdrive. Water doesn't put a whole lot of resistance against your hull, so it doesn't have much to "grab on to", like tires to the road.

When moving slowly, and experiencing this lack of control, a lot of people tent to overcompensate by turning the steering wheel continuously, until they get a reaction from the boat. By the time you start to get a reaction, you've already oversteered. You now have to steer back the other way; and the only difference this time, is right and left.

It'll take some time, but you'll find yourself handling this better and better with practice.

vh is absolutely right.
My boat does this and always in the harbour where we have to go slow and aiming for something, and it makes you look like you haven't a clue.
Try leaving your steering wheel alone and it should simply go left to right but in the same general direction. (does that make sense)?
A little more speed decreases the effect too.

Good luck.

Fireman, what's Chine Walk? Is that the same thing?
No, it's not. Chine walk is a violent, often rapid, side to side oscillation of a padV hull. Technically, it is literally bouncing from one chine to the other. Any padV hull can chinewalk if there are hull problems, setup is wrong or the driver is inexperienced.

Take a look at offshore racing go-fast rocket ship typr boats. When they're up on plan an 90-125 MPH, you'll see them slapping from left to right to left to right. That's chine walk.
