its really MUCH easyer to pull the upper and do it on a bench

i am sure if you do 5 a week it a piece of cake but for us once a year guys i think its a better way

and you can do a compleat pressure test that way to

tommays

i'm afraid I'll have more trouble getting the upper on. Don't you need something to line everything up?

Re: trouble intsalling lower unit

How much force is forcing it????? I got it up to where I could start the two nuts in the back, turning the prop ccw, turning the nut, till the prop locked. At that point I assumed (hoped) the spleens lined up. Then I, and I don't recommend it, bumped the drive up a bit and slid a jack under it. I jacked it up only enough to apply the same pressure I was using lifting it when I started (94 degrees here)and bounced it around a little until whammy! It slid up. Hopefully everything else will be OK and it will be easier next time.

make sure the shift shaft in the lower is fitting in the fork on the upper. If it is off a 1/16 of an inch it will bind. I have had to lift my drive up and down 5-10 times, but when you finally get it lined up it should slide in nice and easy.

I had that lined up. I am familiar with those parts, lower shift cable went last year.
