Trouble pulling a cobra drive

I purchased a cobra drive that someone cut out of a boat with hopes of using the drive.
I have the whole drive with a chunk of transom between the transom plate and gimbal housing drive and everything still attached.

Heres my Dilema.. I removed the nuts holding the lower gearcase and it will drop down a few inches but seems to be hung on the shifter or something? Is there a trick here I'm missing?

The upper drive I removed the nuts holding it in place and it wont come out of the gimble housing. Im thinking this is just a tight gimble bearing?

Howdy,

I'm pretty sure you have to pull the "upper" before you pull the "lower"


If you cannot pull the upper, the yoke has probably got a little corrosion on it and won't slide easily thru the gimbal bearing. (I'm assuming the coupler is not on it)

You might need to push it back in and "emory-cloth" the yoke to clean it up a little.....Then it should slide off. (shoot a little WD40, PB-blaster etc on it)

Yep, the shift pin is still engaged to the lower shift fork, you definately need to pull the upper first.

we had trouble pulling the lower unit , when you crack the lower unit apart you need to look in the front of the drive and turn the shift pin 90 degrees to the port then they should come apart.
we tried to pull just the lower and the pin was too hard to get to, it's just easier to take both off together then seperate.
