i have a 77 glastron v174 this is my second seaon with it and i love it but did some skiing today for the first time with this boat and had some issues. the boast has a volvo 130 and a volvo penta outdrive. with my buddy being towed he is about 150 lbs the boat takes right off and pulls him right up but with me behind about 220 lbs its doesn't seem to take of as well making it real hard to get up and out of the water. the prop is the original and has a couple dings so i plan to replace it but would like to no if i should change pitch and if this would make it easier for us bigger guys to get goin?

even small dings will affect the prop performance a lot but if you want more pull you will have to get a lower pitch, or a 4 blade were is your wot rpm and what is the engine rpms

inside the hub of the prop, it should say something like 14.25 x 19. 14.25 is the diameter, 19 is the pitch.

Note that if you can provide WOT RPMs, current prop info, etc, some recommendations on a different prop could help.

As another poster suggested, 4 blade with same pitch will give better hole shot, drop your RPMs by 50-100 and top end speed down a 1-2MPH.

More info and the prop guys on here can help you get very specific.

Re: trouble with a skier

First a 70lb difference between skiers is significant, especially with a small engine. What you describe sounds normal to me.

As for droping pitch, we need the WOT numbers that you will be getting this weekend, as well as info on the current prop. You will probably have to remove it to get numbers.

4 blade props etc, are normally good suggestions, but on an old VP there really aren't any to chose. Limited to stock prop in different pitches.

Re: trouble with a skier

well a have a second job nights at a small engine repair shop, mainly mowers and stuff like that but the owner my boss buys out alot off shops that go out of buisness and when he does he has to buy all of there old inventory no matter whats there, he happened to have the exact prop i needed brand new in the box he had gotten out of a shop he bought out years ago. i bought it for 50 bucks, i figured for the price even if i want to change pitch later i cant go wrong and it will be a spare. i'll let ya know how it goes this weekend
