Trouble with choke

I am having some trouble with the choke on my Merc 4.3LX 4 barrel. It seems to want to stay on during start and tends to flood. I thought at first it was just sticky, however, even after I cleaned it a bit it still seems to stick. Any ideas or tips on how to clean and lube it better.

Is this an electric choke coil you are having problems with or a mechanical one. Or are you having a problem with the choke plate itself sticking?

I believe it is a mechanical choke and it seems to be the plunger located at the side of the carb that tends to hang up. It's a 1995 4.3 LX if that helps.
