Trouble with Scout Fuel Pick Up

How about another pick up question.
Just got my 95 Scout Dorado out last month from 1 1/2 years in storage with 1/2 tank of fuel. Tried to get gas out my siphon etc. with no luck. Ran down problem to tank pick up. Took the fitting out ( it's 2" under the deck) and that was all that came off just the aluminum 3/8 x 1/4 npt 90 degree fitting. After looking into the tank at the spot where the fitting screws into the tank (had to bore a 1 1/2" hole in the deck), there is nothing except a square end thick aluminum pipe that fills the entire hole under the threads. This pipe has a hole in it that looks to be about 3/8. There is not a sign of a tube, a fitting or anything. I can see that the pipe in the tank curves toward the center of the V tank. I called Scout to find out if there is anything unique about the pick up; they don't know, but ordered a new pick up one month ago. It still has not come in. I just ordered a 24" generic hoping to make it work. Has anyone out there see this problem?

Just got the Moeller 24" tube today. Fitting is correct, but the 1/2 OD plastic tube is too large to go into the tank opening under where the fitting screws in. There must be someone out there who has seen an aluminum tank with a heavy gauge pipe from the fitting into the tank??

Well, no one has an answer. Just got the Scout pick up that was ordered from the tank maker for one month. Just like the Moeller.. tube too big (1/2" OD); can't be over 3/8).

Gut feeling is : You will be pulling tank and repairing it right before it is all over..
You have a very good chance of having a leaker by the time your done.

Well pictures would help a lot, and right off hand you should be able to make one and thread it to fit the existing fittings.

Scout still has not found for me who made the tank. After looking through West M. Cat., I found a co. Who had made aluminum tanks for years, RMS in Fla. Got their number on the net and called. yes, they made the tanks for Scout and have since 1992... And still make some for them. Said the tank does not have a replaceable pick up and were very surprised that Scout and 3 dealers did not know. Said that even though I had close to 1/2 tank of fuel in the tank, if the boat was on the trailer bow high, the pick up was likely out of the fuel since it is actually more to the middle of the tank; very hard to believe. Thought all pick ups were aft. Certainly the fitting for the pipe enters the tank all the way to starboard in the very back of the tank. Evidently the bevel on the aluminum fitting contacts the pipe in the tank and seal to the ID of the pipe.

Whoops, it is RDS. Nice folks. With what they told me, can't believe that one would not get a stall while underway since fuel is pushed to the rear and running bow up is normal most of the times. Any comments on this?

Ayuh,...... I'd think with alittle pokein' with a piece of mechanic's wire,..
You'll know where the fuel level is, 'n whether the dip-tube is clear....

When ya look down the hole, What do ya see,..?? the inside of a 1/2" dip-tube,..??

Poke a wire down it...

Ya might even get a feel for it's direction...

Ayuh.... I know how much gas was in the tank... I have a gauge and it was correct (just under 1/2 full) ... I hand pumped 10 gallons out. That is NOT the issue!

I see the inside of an aluminum pipe 3/8 ID that curves off toward the center of the tank.
