Kink in enrichner hose was the cause of hard starting. I can start it now, effortlessly, on the water :)
...If the idle mixture screws are to adjusted to far in you will have a hesitation or stumble when you try to get up on a plane, and the engine is also harder to start...I believe your engine will run better when the carb mixture screws are set at 2 turns from lightly seated...
Thank you for your help.

Even at two turns out:
When I give it quick throttle it stumbles around 2000rpm and if I continue to give it full throttle it will die. However if I ease it up to 2K and trim up, it will settle in and I can then give it full throttle all the way to 35 mph.

Additional observations:
I have a good stream of tell tale at idle and at slow-medium throttle. Once I get it up to full throttle it becomes a sputtery mist, even stops coming out at all. Then when I let off throttle, smoke is coming out the exhaust It does not smoke like that at slow throttle.. The tell tale stream returns and it is 180°.

Re: Trouble with the hole shot

at the top of this page click boating fourms, the click engine faq, scrol to linc n sinc. this gets your carbs in timing with the electrical firing. 180 is awfully hot, for an engine that has no thermostat, you are probably in need of an impeller also, sound as if it's not pushing enough water, and the water is boiling in the block. don't run it hard until this is fixed.

Had a similar overheating problem on my 73 -850. Impellar would turn at low RPMs but at high RPMs, drive shaft would spin inside the impellar bushing due to wear and corrosion over time on the drive shaft and impellar key. Just a thought - might want to verify when you check the water pump.

Good Luckd:)

Re: Trouble with the hole shot

I've already tried a new impeller. Not a new key yet but I have found one locally for $2.
They also have the entire new pump for $50. Do you think I can find a better price anywhere?

If it is a blown gasket:
Would it be the powerhead to exhaust extension plate 27-56028?
or
The exhaust manifold - cover, baffle plate, water jacket cover - gaskets?

Re: Trouble with the hole shot

2 turns is a good ballpark to start with. Try it at 1/4 turns at a time to get the best hole shot.
