Been struggling with this for a month without success. I have an '89 merc 2.2. Points and coil are NLA, so I tried converting to a Nova II electronic ign module. I had it running fine, and then it just quit at WOT, and I haven't been able to get a spark since. I replaced the module, same result. I tried replacing the coil with one like this, still no joy; I thought that coil would work (same resistences as the OEM, and same shape/size/etc). I tried the coil on my moped and couldn't get a spark out of that either. Not sure why.

I thought that the system should be pretty simple, and that I should a spark regardless of the coil (as long as it was a secondary magneto coil). Guess I was wrong?

Anyway, I need to know how to troubleshoot this thing. I had assumed that I could use a DVM set to VAC to see where my problem is, is that true?

On the motor, I get 10v AC if I measure from the primary (stator) coil to ground. Interestingly, I get no voltage when I try this on the (working) moped. So I don't know what to make of that, or if it's a valid test.

I guess the next step is to try the moped coil on the merc and see what happens.

Any other thoughts?
