I swamped my boat a few years ago, and I have been in the process of rebuilding ever since (floor replacement was an adventure, let me tell you.

Anyway, I am getting nearly complete on this project. Some of my switches were bad and I replaced a few. Now my running light isn't working. I replaced the running light switch and checked the bulb, which were fine. Is the running light typically connected in series with another switch or something. I can't seem to isolate the problem and am hoping somebody has some tips I can use.

Thanks in advance,

Jake

Anchor and Nav lights are not wired in series (nor are any other electrical items except batteries). Here's a diagram of what the wiring looks like. Keep in mind there are two types of switches. If you have a switch with three terminals it looks like this:

If you have a switch with six terminals, it looks like this:

Nice drawings ST. If you are sure you have the switch wired correctly check for 12V at the sockets. If you have the plug in type lights, the sockets where the masts plug in is a good place to start.

Re: troubleshooting running lights

Very nice. Neither of these conditions are used in my application. I have two separate on/off switches; one for nav; one for anchor. The anchor switch is working.
