TRS FORMULA THUNDERBIRD TILT TRIM PROBLEM

HELLO I HAVE A 1973 FORMULA THUNDERBIRD "233" 454 ENGINE AND TRS DRIVE.AT FIRST I HAD A PROBLEM I THOUGHT I COULD FIX EASY. MY DRIVE WOULD GO UP FINE BUT WOULD NEED HELP TO BE LOWERED "MY FOOT ON IT". SO I LOOKED AT THE PUMP AND NOTICED I HAD A SMALL LEAK COMING FROM A HOSE. SO I REPLACED ALL THE HOSES AND FILLED THE PUMP AGAIN. ALL HOSES TO AND FROM THE PUMP TO THE OUTDRIVE WHERE CHANGED . NOW I HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM! MY PUMP IS PUMPING BUT MY RAMS ONLY GO IN ONE DIRECTION!! THEY ONLY GO UP BUT NOT DOWN. ONLY WHEN A CHANGE AROUND THE HOSES AT THE CYLINDERS DO THEY GO DOWN BUT THEN THEY WONT GO UP!THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RETURN OF THE FLUID AFTER NO MATTER HOW I CONNECT THE LINES. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SOME HELP ON THIS MATTER THANK YOU. WILLIE X2703@AOL.COM

hello<br /> sounds like the hydraulic adaptor is dirty. I just replaced one on an old 82 oildyne with the maetal reservoir. its not cheap but repairing the adapter is not an option. what type of trim motor assy do you have?<br /> good luck and keep posting

HELLO thank you for Replying!!I BELIEVE ITS A PRESTOLITE PUMP. WITH THE METAL RESERVOIR. WHAT CAN I DO TO TRY AND CLEAN IT IF IT"S DIRTY AS YOU SAY??.DO I HAVE TO TAKE OUT ALL OF THE FLUID AND REPLACE WITH NEW? WHAT EXACTLY IS THE HYDRAULIC ADAPTER? IS IT ON THE PUMP HOUSING? ITS SO STRANGE I PRESS ANY OF MY SWITHCES UP OR DOWN . AND THE TRIM ONLY GOES IN ONE DIRECTION BUT WHEN I CHANGE THE HOSES ON THE TRIM CYLINDERS THEN IT GOES DOWN BUT ONLY IN THAT DIRECTION.somethng seems to be preventing the hydraulic fluid from returning the opposite wayin its normal function.

Your Trim Pump is Junk.......<br />Replace it.......<br /><br />BTW, THERE'S NO REASON TO YELL..........<br />Loose the Cap-Lock........

so you say my trim pump in junk. so what do you suggest replacing it with? same pump but newer? another prestolite? thanks for responding "Bondo"

Another question i have is there are two hoses one goes from the trim pump down the sterndrive and connects at the bottom plate which then connects two other hoses that feed that cylinders then there is another hose that goes from a point in the back of the engine near the transmission top which goes down to the other connecton at the bottom of the stern drive which also then feeds the cylinders excaxtly what is that rear top mounted hoses function? it seems to go from a valve of some sort down to the platenext to the other hose from the pump then to the cylinders?

I Believe what you have is what I know as the Mod.1 trim pump system....<br />Is there also a different plastic line going from the Thingy at the back of the engine, to the trim pump ????<br />If there Is,<br />You can remove everything Inside of the Transom,+ Replace it with the Late Model Alpha1 Trim Pump(and it's related lines).......

yes it does have that plastic line going from the "Thingy" into the Trim pump. so therefore i can put the new Mercruiser pump for the Alpha and Bravo drives? Thank you very much "Bondo"
