I'm not sure if this question belongs in the Boat Related message board or not, but I figured most of you guys get your boats to the water by truck, so here goes. I own a 1972 22'Mako (1800-1900 lbs. / dry weight)with a Yamaha 220HP (400 lbs.). I got these weights from the manuals and the internet. The only other non-factory item on the boat is a T-Top that I installed myself. It weighs in the range of 80-90 lbs(i think). I have a total fuel capacity of 66 gallons (51 Main Tank / 15 Spare Tank).

Here's the Math:

1900 (Boat - Dry)
400 (Motor)
90 (T-Top)
530 (Fuel - Filled)
+ 1200 (McClain Trailer)
---------------------
4120 Lbs.

Here's the question. Am I overworking my truck?
I own a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab with the smaller V8 4.8 litre engine. I could not seem to locate any info specifically about the towing capacity of my truck on the internet..unless I was looking in all the wrong places.

Thanks

Your towing capacity should be in your owners manual.

I dont have the exact towing capacity for your
truck on hand, However I do know that the towing
capacity exceeds 6000 lbs. You will be ok as long
as you are not towing in the mountains all the
time. I am assuming your truck is an automatic.

Re: Truck / Boat Towing Question

I guess this is the point where I open mouth and insert foot. I downloaded the manual (pdf file) from the Chevy site, and it didn't show the information. I got off my lazy A$$ and walked all the way to my truck...50', and grabbed my manual. Guess what was in there.... THE TOW CHART !!! Sorry about the wasted spcae in this forum.

Amazing when you find the answer in the last place you look!

I tow a 21ft. Runabout (approx. 5000 lb) with a 2001 Ranger 4x4, 4.0 SOHC V6 engine. It tears up most hills around 45 mph.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about.

H.

Hook up another boat behind that one and your still fine. I towed my Fountain with a Dakota until I got my fullsize hemi. Boat/trailer/gas combined is about 7,000 lbs.

Re: Truck / Boat Towing Question

LOL...good one OBJ. Thanks Lakeman. I work in the computer industry. I get calls from people ALL DAY LONG with questions that could be easily figured out if they would RTFM (Read The Freaking Manual). I guess I should pray what I preach a bit more...LOL !!!

My favorite line to use when I get a call for something really simlple to fix: I tell them it was caused by an "I.D. 10 T" error. They ask me what that means...so I simply ask them to write that error on a piece of paper and read it back. "IDIOT" error. I only pull that one on the customers that I have a great relationship with.

Once again guys. I appreciate the help...AS ALWAYS !!!
