Please bare with me as i am new @ posting stuff. Ok here it goes I have a 2000 Crownline 202 BR with a 5.0L Mercruiser 2BBL Mercarb, Alpha One Gen II 2.00:1 Outdrive, Current Prop 14.25 X 21P Mercury Aluminum (came with boat) Probably OEM Replacement. Boat Dry Weight is 3100lbs LOA is 20'2" with full tank and gear guessing about 3600lbs without people. Top speed trimmed out with 3 people is 40-42 MPH pending on water conditions @4400-4600rpm's. I did notice the the current prop vetilates on tighter turns @ faster speeds and @ slower speeds i.e. tubing between 22MPH and 28MPH i lose speed easily on tighter turns with steady throttle. Anyway I need to get on plane sooner for tubing and wakeboarding. I have been prop shopping on iboats as well as other sites gathering info on props and such and trying to see who's application comes close enough to mine but having a hard time. Some talk good and bad of the hydrofoil, as well as SS props 3 and 4 blade. I personally was looking @ the 4 blade stilletto bay pro II 14.25 X 20P because of research on props, and i boats prop help guide said to decrease pitch size by 1" when swithcing from 3 blade to four blade props. Whew (deep breath)... ? is will this prop help me or hurt me espescially with fuel consumption, knowng how expensive fuel and props are these days would only rather buy 1 prop and less fuel. Any advice is greatly appreciated:D . Hopefully this is enough info!

Hello and welcome aboard!

You have done your research and studying well, grasshopper. I hope you can test the 20P before purchase. If you were changing from a SS 3-blade to SS 4-blade, I think the 1" applies more often. Going from a 3 AL to 4 SS may benefit with a 2" reduction.

The 20P you are looking at will give better performance, no doubt. I hope your rpm will remain within engine spec of 44-4800 when loaded down. I hope you can try the 19P *** well to make sure.

Good luck!

the 20 will be two much...Question why not put a 4 barrel on the boat...Now that would wake that girl up... Take a close look at your intake and see if it is a 4 barrel intake converted with a adapter plate to accept a 2 barrel carb very common...a good marine eldebrok may cost 275 and worth it all day long.

Thank You Robbabob the research continues now i have to decide wheather or not i buy that prop in aluminum first since it's only $155 or just buy the 19P in SS hmmm??? And Tail_Gunner I agree especially with Edelbrock they pretty much perfected the old Charter AFB design and put out amazing performance especially on the the street but i'm having a hard time affording the fuel prices now with the 2BBL especially @ $6.59 Per galon on the lake and $3.70 on land. You would think with the economy the way it is they would help out and drop the fuel prices especially for boaters being that this hobby is expensive enough without the cost of fuel and maybe just maybe include a little spit to ease the pain if not a complimentary jar of vaseline:D .

19 pitch 3 blade stilletto would be a first choice...Huge grip and high speed

Re: Trying to find the pefrect prop!

Your motor will use fuel at wot at a rate if about 10% of the hp.ie: 200 hp = about 20 gph(gallons per hour)@ wot.. Very carefull prop selection and setup will get the best performance ie: the best mileage. The whole idea is to get the most speed at the least throttle setting while staying close to the max rated rpm range.Assuming the boat has been setup reasonably well the improvement
of a better setup will likely measured in tenths of a gallon.Difficult to tell without a flow meter.
While trim tabs can give marked improvement in hole shot, control and ability to stay on plane some tests have found that best mileage on plane is with the tabs fully retracted.
Again measured in tenths of a gallon.

Ive thought about spikes post for a while, actually i believe that a 600 cfm carb mated with those vortec heads would give you better fuel econ along with power than any prop could ever hope to accomplish...and more cost effective if you have a true 4 bl intake already there.

Re: Trying to find the perfect prop!

Sorry Tail_Gunner as sad as it is for you to hear this news it is is worse for me to say it. It unfortunatley is a 2BBL intake not a 4 I'll still never quite understand why anyone would want to detune a motor or even put a 2bbl on a v8 when we all know it deserves a 4BBL:(. Even though its only a 305 and not a 350 its still in the raw american muscle family and deserves better than a 1/2 of a carb. I myself would prefer the old rochester quadrajet as opposed to whats on there now but thats how it came. Anyway i just hoe that a 3 blade ss prop will improve my handling alot over the aluminum.
