Hi all,

I?m trying to find the right Carburetor kit for my 1987 30HP Johnson. I looked up the carburetor kit through this web site, but the replaces OEM part # isn?t matching up with mine. The aluminum tag on my carburetor has the number 398081 how do I find the right kit?

PS:I just want to make sure I get the right carb kit.

Thanks in advance?

Re: Trying to find the right carb rebuild kit

All of the Johnson 1987 30HP parts manuals list the original carburetors as part no 398,079
with repair kit 398,729.

The carburetor replacements are listed below:
Part Number:0398079Description:CARBURETOR AY Pack Qty:1Dimensions:6.25 x 4.25 x 4.25 (in)Weight:1.29 lbsEquivalent Parts:0432021,0432705,0439389

The OEM repair kit has superseded to part #396701.

The aftermarket Sierra kit is 18-7042. http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=109332&gd_row=38&**********=996897513

To look at the OEM catalogs, go to this link http://shop.evinrude.com/, then click the parts diagram link on their page, Then navigate to your model and see the carburetor diagram. In the diagram there is a box named repair kit. If you click the number on the repair kit in the diagram, it will take you to the appropriate line and part number.

In the list you will see the that the parts have a magnifing glass on the line. If you click the magnifying glass, it will show the superseding (current) part numbers. http://shop.evinrude.com/

sometimes those #s are casting #s. the kits should be the same. as they fit many models.
