I have a 1988 Sunbird that has a OMC or GM 3.0l engine. The model number is 302AMRGDP.
The reason I say OMC or GM is because the engine has GM stamped on it ls block but I see the engine online referred to as a GM or OMC or Mercruiser?.... I am trying to find the gaskets, grommets etc to rebuild this engine but what to make sure I am ordering the right parts.

Any advice on how to order parts for this to repair it in terms of which should I search for omc or gm or mercruiser or were they the same in 1988?

first, the base engine long-block is identical on all GM 3.0's for a given year. then the marinizers such as OMC or Volvo or Mercruiser back in 1988 would then add their own intake and exhaust manifold, their own fuel sysetm, their own mounting, their own accessory drive and their own alternator

OMC is different than Mercruiser when it comes to all the bits bolted on the long-block

the base engine parts come from GM.

the cost to rebuild a 3.0 is about the same cost as rebuilding a small block, or about $1500. you can buy a running 3.0 in good shape for under $500 and simply swap your OMC parts over to it and be boating by tomorrow.

the best way to order the parts you need to rebuild your 3.0 is to talk to your machine shop. they will not only have the parts at their disposal, they will help you identify the correct parts needed during a rebuild as they will know what next size piston and rings and bearing you will need.
