trying to get a 85 85hp running

I have the harness to the key everything s hooked up off the poweer head and looks like there on the right connection I hooked up the positive off the main harness and grounded the other side to the powerhead I dont have a neg cable off the powerhead which could be the slugish cranking. and dont see were it goes I guesss just somewhere on the power head? anyway fully charged battery went to turn over key did not crank it over not sure if the guy I got it from wired the key end correct it has a Ign and a start option on the back of the key the start terminal is empty no wire I have 2 extra wires a orange which looks like temp a black guessing its a ground. does anyone have a picture or a wiring schematic that shows how to wire the key up is this a type III wiring system? any help would be great thanks

white lead to either m terminal, yellow to, s, green to c, red to b, orange to i blue to either m terminal good luck

orange to i as in ignition? I have 2 wires left black and purple guessing black is ground and purple tach?

yep orange goes to i as in ignition, purple is tach if you dont have one tape it off and let it hang,the book shows no black wire tied into the ignition switch, maybe tied into fuse block under the dash, on my boat i have two sets of fuses one for pos & one for negative circuits you might check there good luck don

I dont have it on my boat yet trying to get it running first. so just tape off the black wire and tach wire?

Where does the big black wire from your battery connect?
That one should be connected to the block.
There is a place that connects.
