Trying to Install New Stereo

I recently bought a new boat which has a tape deck stereo that I knew didn?t work. Yesterday I bought a Sony CD unit to replace it. I connected my ground wire and then spliced the red and yellow wires to the old wiring harness. Before connecting the speakers I wanted to make sure it worked which of course it didn?t. I?ve tried everything I can think of. I had the accessory switch on and I tried turning the ignition key to the on position, but still nothing works. I have a neighbor that has a voltage meter so I can check to see if it is getting power. I?m assuming it?s not. If that is the case does anyone have any suggestions on how I should troubleshoot this? Thanks for your help.

Check the fuse box and check if the fuse is burned for the sterio or check if you have a fuse inside on the red wire that runs between the batterie and the head unit.

If you don't have power where you spliced in the red and yellow connections, you'll need to go upstream from those connecting points and try to determine the 12v path looking for possible breaks in wires, bad connections, blown fuses, etc. Also, be sure and check your ground point to be sure it is actual ground. Depending on your boat, sometimes it's easier to run new wires from where you know you have the properly switched 12v power to the stereo.
