Trying to replace top crankshaft seal - 18hp Fastwin

I'm confused as to how to install the top seal on the crankshaft. Does the seal get pressed down inside the bearing? If so, is it supposed to be a really tight fit because I tried tapping it down into the bearing and it didn't seem like it wanted to go. The new bearing is already in the crankcase, but I'm posting a picture of the old bearing beside the new seal so you can see what they look like.

Please excuse my ignorance. Would this be the top seal that the arrow is pointing to in the bearing? Do the top bearings normally come new with the seals in them?

Correct , that is a seal installed in the top bearing !!

Yes often they come with the seal already installed, as you have found.
