Tube from coolant overflow bottle lid?

On my Merc.470 the cap on the coolant overflow bottle has a tube connection on it but there's no tube connected to it. There is a tube going from the coolant reservoir tank neck to the bottom of the bottle but that's it. Should there be a tube attached to the lid? is that just for drainage if it gets to full?

mine is same set-up, looks like hose could go on nipple I'm no expert but I believe it would be just to drain overflow down into bilge....?

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I'm just tryiing to dot all my 'I's and cross all my 'T's since I have a pretty bad leak somewhere. It's not the camshaft seal as that's allready been replaced (along with the camshaft) about 20 hours ago.
