I am rounding up replacement parts for my gimbal housing. Looking in the back of the housing there appears to be a replaceable tube (shift cable passage??) but I can't find it on the parts diagram to get the part number. Can anybody give me the part number or kit number that has the part? Thanks..

As always its best to provide as much info of what your working on. Its in the Merc section and looks like a Merc housing, and assume its a Alpha and could be a MR but might be a Gen 2

With that, I don't know of Merc using a brass tube in that area, so my guess is its the brass end of the shift cable which is stuck in there. The shift cable should go from the outside in toward the motor. To remove it should come out the stern. Looks like it was removed incorrectly and piece broke off the cable

He never said anything about removing the old cable and he had to pull it out from the stern anyway. Usually the plastic guide is not visable it`s #30

I put the drive description in my signature block but it is an Alpha One Gen One MR... I didn't remove the cable as I got the gimbal housing as a used loose piece. After looking at it again last night it appears to be plastic. It is flared towards the front and appears flared towards the back (which is weird but wear might have caused that)... It is stuck in there pretty good so want to make sure I can get a replacement before I force it out.... So, I guess the real question is, should there be anything in that hole through the gimbal housing?

Thanks...

So, I went ahead and pulled the gimbal housing off the boat. The light colored nylon looking tube in the picture is what I pulled out. The nice flared end was toward the front of the housing (engine side) and the rather deformed end was towards the back of the housing. The black part is what I found in my new lower shift cable kit (Sierra 18-2603E - MCM 19543T1). The kit doesn't have any instructions so can anyone confirm that the black part is supposed to snap into that passage through the gimbal housing where the shift cable goes through and that it is the replacement for the light colored nylon part? Thanks..
