I work in Memphis, just not downtown. We're about 5 miles from the riverfront. The flooding isn't just around the Mississippi but the smaller rivers and creeks too. Most are flowing backwards as the MS pours into them. Any farmland around here with a creek near it looks like a lake. The silver lining (if there is one) is that it was a slow moving flood and it does not look like too much topsoil will be lost. The fields may gain some nutrients out of it. Especially if those stupid flying carp get trapped in one. When this is over, folks are going to be pulling those things out of their swimming pools.
