As a new boat owner with a 48 Evenrude Special, I had it winterized at the marina last year. He now tell me I need a tuneup before I put it into the water. what does a tuneup require for this motor. I had new plugs put in the middle of August and the carb cleaned by the people who I bought the boat from. Can I just put the boat in the water and run it after it was fogged or is there something I have to do?

Re: tuning up a 48 Evenrude Sp

Put water cooling "muffs" on it, turn on the water and crank her up. If she starts and idles well, disable each spark plug in turn. If each causes the rpm to drop, or the engine to stall, it is ready for a sea trial.

Take her out and run a while at WOT to be sure your water pump is working well.

If everything checks out okay, drain and refill the gearcase.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the information and I will buy a pair of muffs at our local Walmart.
