Clanton,
The only disadvantage I can think of is years ago I bent a 16' Cajun bassboat real hard to the left and the boat kinda leaned over on the left part of the tunnell and then tripped down flat. This was at speed and almost lost me but that was a design glitch.
I've got a 17' Molinari type tunnell now and it stays flat. Lemme know.
c/6 hooty

Re: Tunnel hull

I can't speak of the smaller hulls like the cajun, but I had a 23FT PennYan Cudy. three disadvantages were readily apparent. steering was one. It took some getting used to,but this could be overcome with time at the helm, and practice. It acted like there was ZERO steerage in reverse,at the noramlly lower speeds you would use reverse.
Another was lower top end speed. And lastly, which ties into it's lower speed, was fuel economy was terrible.
Still, it was fun to take that big old tank accross the flats, and watch the little bowrders which would inevitably follow me (thinking I knew a short cut accross to the channels), run aground.

Re: Tunnel hull

I have a Lowe 17' Tunnel jon boat and have run jets and props off the back. IMHO, no disadvantages when using a jet. When using a prop there is a little more drag from the water being pulled up into the tunnel area (lost a couple MPH).
