I’m sure this has been asked before, and I’m asking again because I can’t seem to find a definitive answer. Some say each are specifically built to be “X” hp and some say it’s all the same, and only the carbs are different

Can I get more out of my 50? Or is 50 pretty much it without extensive and expensive mods?

You will have to compare parts but I am pretty sure it is.mainly in the carbs.

Check the block part numbers. If the displacement and compression ratio is the same, the exhaust scavenging can be different.

Sad , sad ---when folks do not understand the manufacturing / marketing of these products.----I have said that parts are the same , same displacement etc.----And here we are with the same questions again .----Ok maybe I over simplify.-----Look into a different cylinder head and carburetors.------Simple bolt it on stuff.

I’m back considering this again. I am trying to determine what model years would have the parts I need to turn it into a 70hp. I’ve been using the BRP part look up and all I can determine is that 1994 to 1997 seem to be compatible by carb assembly and head numbers. 1994 is slightly different. It uses a carb 0437087 (noted with suffix V only) and a 0339221 head.
I’m a little confused by this because these are the same part numbers that make up the 1995 60 hp model.

Any thoughts on this? Does anybody know if previous era carbs/head will work say from a 1990 model? (Or other 56cu motors)

It appears in a 1998 was the switch to fuel injection.

They never fuel injected the 56 cid motor. And they made the 56 cid carb 70 hp up until around 2005

No such thing as fuel injection on those motors.-----Perhaps the Evinrude Ficht models were or the EVIZUKI 4 stroke models.

OK good to know thanks guys. I’m just guessing at model numbers when I look up anything other than what I have. So perhaps I’m off the mark. In any case, can somebody help me identify the years that will work? Remember, I’m not a mechanic, i’m just a DIY guy trying to learn these motors. If I can get an extra 20 hp out of this 50. I would be very happy. I only bought this motor because it was the newest thing I could get with the money I had in my pocket. I really wanted to 70 but right now they’re running $2500 to 3
grand around these parts if they can be found at all. I have a running 1990 70hp. but it’s very tired with poor compression all across three. If these carbs and cylinder head will work. That would be awesome.

OK so are my only options looking for years that have the exact same carburetor/head?

Or is the answer is I don’t know?

not really repair and maintenance, I would say, although getting help. Might try the search engine, or google.

just use your 70hp head and carbs. done. would double check timing @ WOT if you arent getting much out of it though. while you are at it, might as well throw in a set of CCMS plastic reeds.
