turning hitch over

Once again a possible dumb question..I just purchased a used 20ft pontoon boat and I noticed that the trailer has a "down hill" angle when it is hooked up to my truck that is not caused by the rear of the truck being over loaded. When the boat is hooked up the truck "squats" less than 2 inches.....I have a 2" receiver hitch class 3. The receiver has a 2 inch drop and To keep from buying another receiver and ball a friend of mine suggested I take the trailer ball off and turn the receiver up side down and re-attach the ball. Are this engineered to work and hold the weight in both directions. I got a real good deal on the boat but I don't want it to pass me going down the highway, just to save a few bucks on another receiver,
thanks

Re: turning hitch over

Most hitches are designed to have a rated drop and rise. Check the manufacturer's website to be sure but I'd hazaed to say that it can. A 3" drop is generally a 2" rise.

Turning it upside down doesn't change it's strength. I'm assuming too you have a 500lb/5000lb drawbar and you are not anywhere near those numbers. Towing your trailer as close to level as possible is the way to do it. So flip it , you get about 3" rise vs current.

They are designed to work either way. It might also be a good idea to double check the tongue weight (%) on your trailer setup...

Re: turning hitch over

Have been pulling a trailer with the hitch turned up for about 7 years now with no problem.
