As a fairly new boat owner and not a rich one, I was wondering if it is ok to use the standard Turtle Wax as you would use on a car on your boat?

I use any type of wax that happens to be in the garage. So far my boat has had a good wax job with Turtle Wax, Meguires, and Mothers. When we get back from the rivers, I use the spray wax on the whole thing.

I don't think it makes a great big deal on what type you use, as long as you get something on it to protect the gel coat. I'm sure their will be a hundred others that disagree with me and only use boat specific wax, but this is what I do and it works.

I don't find "boat" wax any different than car wax.

I stick with Meguires because I have good luck with it on my cars. I wax the boat once every 3 months, and like briguy I spray detail it when after a day out.

'Turtles' live in the water...don't they?

Kidding aside...wax, is wax, is wax. Pick your posion! :D

Perhaps lazy(?), but it works. (after the wax)

I use the turtle wax / car wash stuff.
Have an old Mirical Grow sprayer that can be hooked in line with the garden hoses.
I'll fill it w/Turtles, turn it on, and wash the boat with one of them wands with a brush thingies, then turn off the Mirical grow (bypass system) and rinse. Done.

Quick / easy / and seems to work fine. (saltwater boat)

I guess to some that have nothing better to do than wax the boat, waxing it three or four times a season to say a couple of bucks is acceptable.

For those like me that would rather be boating than waxing it's worth the extra money to put something on that will last an entire season.

I use Collinite Wax Fleetwax on mine. Last a full season of saltwater usage and it's depth of shine is second to none. Sure it's expensive, but figure in the cost of your time and it's very cost effective if not cheaper than most.
