Can I use a VHF whip antenna to get TV receiption on a portable battery operated TV? Or do I need to buy one just for a TV.

I believe you need a special splitter. Otherwise keying the mic and sending 25 watts up the antenna would likely fry the TV in a heartbeat. Do a web search. You might start by visiting Shakesperes web site.
