Has anyone ever seen a boat with twin 50's or lower hp's? I'm curious. I've never seen such a thing; however, it seems that it would be more common on smaller boats used inshore saltwater.

There are a lot of Boston Whaler 16/17s in the Bahamas that run twin OMC 50s. At least there were 20 years ago when I was last there.

I used to see a small aluminum runabout with twin Johnson 25's.

On the Colorado River in Laughlin Nevada the river taxis use twin Honda 4-Strokes. I think the HP is about 50 HP each. These are Pontoon Boats also.

Re: Twin 50's

I have recently see a boat with twin 70 HP Johnsons, but it is rare. Twin 50HP motors was probably used when the highest HP you could get was 50HP. (circa 1958)

Mercury actually sold twin outboards in the 1950's as a combo. The combined HP was the name of the outboard. It seems to me that model number was Merc 35, which meant two 17.5HP motors.
