I have a Pursuit 2550 w/twin 150 Yamahas. How do I know if the engine height is right. Also how do I measure the the toe. Should it be in or out.

Re: Twin engine setup?

There are a lot of people with your exact kind of boat over at thehulltruth forum, and they can give you some first-hand experience with the best set-up. Also, the topic of toe-in or toe-out was just discussed over there a few days ago, and apparently the recommendations vary between the different engine manufacturers.

As for engine height, surely some of the experts here can give some advise. For single engines, the anti-ventilation plate (also called anti-cavitation plate by many) should be even with the hull bottom, or even slightly above it. For a twin set-up, I guess the rules may be a bit different. Also, different props like different mounting heights before they start to blow out (=ventilate), so there may be required a bit of trial and error on your specific boat.

The engine height will depend on the hull design, the prop (technology level) you chose and the way you use the boat (always smooth water, following swells etc).

The toe is measured at propshaft level. The nose of the case being the "toes" and the aft end of the propshaft being the "heel". In most cases on a V bottom you'll get the most efficiency being slightly toed in. Your center to center mounting distance plays a part too. On cats, in most cases, the opposite is true.

Don't be afraid to try the counter case on the starboard side.
