I just put 2 150 (95) johnsons on my boat. I have 2 question. I have 2 gas lines going into one water separator filter (2 inlet/2outlets. Should I have 2 seperate filter/separators? Second question; can both my starter bateries be tied together (12 volt) as with a single ourboard. Don't want to fry the charging systems. Grounds on both motors are togethetr on wiring harnes as book suggested.
Thanks Rick

Re: twin outboard installation(gas/bateries)

I have twins and have a fuel fliter/water seperator for each engine.

I have two starting batteries with each having a seperate master switch. I can run either engine or both on battery # one or # two or both with no problems. I usually start with both bateries - run on one on the way out and switch to the other for the way back. I make sure that both batteries have a full charge before I pull out of the driveway. I also check each once a month and charge as needed.

Re: twin outboard installation(gas/bateries)

While I can't comment on the fuel/water separator (its on a list of to-do) my batteries are as follows: Port battery, starting port motor, and all major electrical functions, dash guages, GPS, VHF. Starboard battery is for starting starboard motor only. There is a ground cable connecting the two batts together. From what I can see this is the way it was set up at the factory. With it set up this way, the charging systems don't fit each other, and should one battery go down, chances are that you can still get one motor going to get home.
