1)Issue, everything on the engines are up to date, and they are well cared for, clean: 02(new)in specs, plugs, plug caps, vst filter, low pres. pumps etc. The engines run great and are used a lot but I treat them well. However at times when hunting down fish and have to stop and restart they do not want to fire up. After I retry a few times I can always get them up and running, then they always run fine. It am just wondering why I am having this start up problem? They do smoke a lot but always have...any ideas why they do not just fire right up? 2)Does anyone think it would be a good idea to do that de-carbon thing with the heavy mix of sea foam? I have heard mixed reviews and do not want to screw them up? Thanks all appreciate any advise.

rodbolt, valid question: production dates are 9/97 and 8/97 so I think that means they are 98's my mistake. Either way the model #'s (L250 TXRW) and (S250 TXRW), there are some other SS numbers let me know if you need them as well I have them. Thank for your help.

TXRW t is trim,x is 25" transom r is remote and w means its a 98 model.
when they are having trouble with a hot start do they turn over at normal speed? is there anything in particular you do that helps them restart?
has the oil pump lever to stopper pin clearence been checked with the lower two shutter links on the stbd side removed ?
these EFI motors are usually fairly simple to test, but a great help will be some test harnesses and a diagnostic lamp. do you have access to them ?

Thanks rodbolt, turn over seems totally normal in terms of starter speed etc. I do nothing special to get them to start (just keep trying after a few seconds, stop and then retry, I was told the computer should handle what needs to happen, so I do not take out of gear and add throttle or chock? Is that a correct assumption?
After reading up on your suggestion of checks, I understand, why you say to check the oil pump lever to stopper pin clearence. Yep I need to go buy a test harnesses and dia. lamp. Will do!

Any insight on that "sea foam stuff" to de-cardon the engines (good idea or bad) in your opinion?
Thanks again...

we use the yamaha version so I guess it will work.
how long do you have to crank on them to get them to start and when they do is there unburned fuel rainbows on the water ?
and do both engines do it ?

So you suggest to use a high concentration of "Ring Free"? Or is there another product from Yamaha I should use to de-carbon?

It takes about four to five tries of turing the key for about 5 secs each time. Then they will fire up and ideal fine? Its strange, just started this year with one engine, now they both do it. The boat can sit for a week (does not very often) and engines fire right up, in one sec of turning the key. Also it does not matter how they are shut down, could be from running at 3000rpms to a shut down after a long slow troll? I am a true believer in the engines; simple, strong and reliable etc. that is why I treat them like my aircraft engines.
