My brother has a early 2000s 17 ft Twin V center console with a 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. Apparently it was originally sold with a 35 hp and the original owners repowered around 2008 with the 50 (hull is rated for 60hp) .
Issue is when wide open it doesn't seem to go as fast as he'd like and has a real nose up attitude. I see this this is a set up or prop issue but wanted to run through possible causes to check through. I have to do some basics this spring like fix the tach and get a good WOT rpm and gps speed ( brother said he got 22 mph on gps)
Things I was thinking:
There is a 4 blade power tech prop on it with what looks like the most cupping I've ever seen on it so might need to drop in pitch depending on where rpm is at wot
what is the correct motor height or correct starting point for working in the motor height on a cat? Cavitation plate is evn with the bottom if the Vs I. Thinking we may want to try to raise it a hole or two
put my brother on a diet... ok really any other thoughts ?
Mods if this is better in another heading please feel free to move it
