I want to put plenty of power and not under power my new boat so I want to go with Yamaha twin 200 HPDI because maily of the weight factor at 466 lbs each which is under 1000 lbs on the transom motor brackets. Well is the vote out yet on these motors? Have they had enough time to prove themselves? I know what the site says on the performance but what does the real world say and think about them in the water with use and time on them? I think they are monster saltwater series motors? What do you think about the choice? If I go with a single 300 and a kicker I do not think I will be happy or a 275 4 stroke Verado with a kicker. I think I will be underpowered with singles and a kicker!!! I like the twin 200 idea best. What do you guys think regarding brand new power on a brand new boat.

BAZ...

Re: Twin Yami 200 HPDI Questions

SteveBaz,
First Off, Welcome to the Boards !

As for your question on the HPDI's, I cant answer that because I have no direct experience with them. However, you can do a search on the Yammi Forum and you'll get lots of "real world" questions/concerns/problems.

As to your question about the kicker. If you plan to boat primarily in Saltwater off shore, stay with the twins. But spend the extra couple of hundred and buy a lower pitch prop spare for each engine. You lose 1 in the standard configuration and you wont have the ability to get the boat on plane with the other because the pitch it too high. A prop change off shore is not always the easiest thing to do, but if there is a storm picking up, would you rather come home at 10 mph lugging the only remaining engine, or would you rather come home up on plane cruising around 25mph with the bad one tilted out of the water....you pick.

Nav
