Two gas tanks

I have a 1988 Nitro Bass boat that I purchased for a project boat and it is in pretty good shape. It has 2 gas tanks. One under the driver seat and 1 further to the rear. The rear tank was hooked up and I am using that one. I want to try to use the other tank but a little concerned about what it is like inside. There is a guage for the tank I am using and I will need to install another guage also. I also plan on installing a 3 way valve. If I put some gas in the unused tank and then drain it and put an in line filter in what are4 my chances of messing my carbs up? Need info on installing another guage also.
Thanks
jm

Re: Two gas tanks

You don't need to add another gauge. You can add a switch that allows you to flip between tank 1 and tank 2. Below is a diagram showing the wiring. Although this diagram shows dual temp gauges, ignore that and pretent the senders are fuel tank senders. Same principle applies. As for cleaning the tank, what type of tank are we talking about? Is it a portable above deck. or is it a permanently mounted below deck tank? You cannot safely install a fuel sender in a plastic portable tank. Note that I said "safely". People have done it and gotten by with it. You can look at a portable tank to see how much fuel you have so adding a sender is a waste in my view.

Thanks for reply. It is a built in aluminum tank that has not been used. Help me on the diagram. It looks like a temp guage set up. should I just disregard the Temp ?

Re: Two gas tanks

Read my post again -- carefully! I was specific that this diagram was for a temp gauge but that a fuel gauge and sensors are wired exactly the same way.
