Two good sites for wiring newbies

While browsing around tonight for some more information to help me wire my boat, I found two sites that I found incredibly useful, especially since I'm very inexperienced with wiring sizes and marine wire/terminals. Excuse me if these sites have already been posted!

1. This site was very useful on the different types of marine terminals and the tools used to make them properly: Marine Wire Termination

2. And this site clued me in on choosing appropriate wire sizes for different loads and cable runs. It has a couple very useful charts on allowable cable loads at different run lengths:
Choosing Cables and Terminals for Marine Service

Hope these two links help the next sparkie newbie like they did me!

Another site you might like for the color codes is the ABYC Standards site. If you were wanting to stick with the original wire colors, that is where to get them. I wanted to do that too, but unless there is a site where you can get a bunch of different colors for cheap, I found it would cost too much to buy rolls of every color. And forget about the two-color wires (I haven't found them yet). :D

Genuinedealz.com is a great resource for AWG Tinned Marine Primary wire, you can even find them on eBay to compare prices. They sell various lenghts on eBay so you won't have to buy a 100' roll. Just measure up wat you need and look them up. I found very good prices through them, and have already purchased with them on eBay lately. They can also make up some battery cables with your specifications if needed, and only charge an extra dollar to swedge on those big cable ends for you...cheaper than buying those profession grade Wire Crimpers for cables. Do a Google search on Genuinedealz.com and see for yourself the differences in pricing between Anchor / Jamestown / other players.

Just my two bits.

Re: Two good sites for wiring newbies

I had looked at genuinedealz once or twice.. heard some good things about them from other members on here too. I'm sure i'll be getting my new wiring supplies from them. I looked around at other sites for wire and terminals, couldn't find anybody as cheap as they are for tinned wire. I like being able to buy shorter wires on ebay, since for some of the heavier wire (#8-10), I won't be needing a whole roll.

Thanks for the tip! I hope others will check it out too...
