two new stupid questions

My 73 imp. omc 225 , I rewired it everything is all working, I have ann extra orange wire running from I believe the alternater up to dash,,, what the hell is it?? and I also have some kind of sensor hooked to a plate at the front of the engineright where the smaller water hoses go in at top of motor,,, what the hell is that??
thanks guys and when I get out of work , I will try to find a manual,, in any case ,,, thanks ..Ill post some pics of my boat

aluminum flattish box?

that's your voltage regulator for the charging system

heavy wire - 10 ga or maybe 8?
that would 1/2 of the circuit for an ammeter
If that's what you find, cut it, tape it, heat shrink it and forget it

Could the "some kind of sensor" be the temperature sending unit? In the front.....near the hoses....
