I was de-winterizing my new to me 03 stringray 200 with a 5.0 motor for my first outing Sat when I notice that the motor has 2 PVC valves on in each valve cove. The right side connects to the carb the left one just has a un plugged hose connected.

What the heck is that all about.. anyone know why

How do you de-winterize? And mine has no pcv... just open adapters from the vc's to the flame arrestor. Same on both sides. But mine is a 1990 also.

Re: Two PVC valves

Why two PCV valves? One goes to the vacuum intake tube at base of carb. Are you saying that some have two one to base of carb another to flame arrestor

Re: Two PVC valves

You do not have 2 pcv valves. One is a PCV valve, the other is just an open fitting. It may look like a pcv, but it's not.
The pvc goes to the base of the carb, the elbow fitting in the other valve cover goes to the flame arrestor.
Do you have a serial number for your engine, Merc lists nothing by year, only SN.

Motor number is M616876. I do not have a repair manual.

Guess I need to get a adapter for flame arrestor or plug the hose. Is the 2nd one to warm carb and choke which may not be necessary in the summer, correct

There should be 2 little tab on the top of the flame arrestor that the vent hose connects to. If the hose doesn't hold on to those little tabs, be creative, just keep the open end of the hose aimed at the flame arrestor.
It's not for heat, it's to re circulate the oily air from the engine back into the carb. This keeps the engine from getting oily, and keeps the oil smell from entering the boat.

Re: Two PVC valves

Now I know. Make sense to me!

Also I thought the dealer did a really really good detail on motor. But on futher inspection and service the boat has labels on starter, alternator and bar code sticker on front of motor that look brand new. I can not find a wrench mark on alternator, starter, thermastat, or any where except carb which is brand new. No rust on intake, mainfolds anywhere

A 8 y/o boat should show some reapirs or rust. The dealer knew nothing about boat was traded in to him
I think my 10K boat has a new complete long block
