Question 1. Guide spring lever. I've attached an image so you guys can see it. It's not doing anything except hitting against the spinning part of the stator. What is that spring( see "clip" ) supposed to be doing?

Question 2. This engine is suppose to have a shorting switch. It didn't have one when I got it and the only cable I'm seeing... is one coming down from the stator. Is that ground cable( see "clip2") suppose to go through a shorting switch and when it opens it basically takes out the ground and causes the engine to stop? I don't like removing grounds because of electrical problems that might occur.

I can'r make out that first picture. Sorry, I have no idea what to tell you as I have no idea what you're speakin of.

Second picture.... DO NOT remove that ground. There should be two black wires leading down from the timer base on the other side of the engine, close to the front. Those wires are attached to the ignition points and should be leading to a kill button. If those wires are simply hanging there, connecting them together would kill the ignition. Let us know what you find.

Maybe this will help. It's from Johnson. Part number 50.

Picture was quite small, however I was able to enlarge it to see #50. That gas to do with a lockout mechanism that prevents the manual starter from being engaged when the unit is in gear.

Ok, that sounds better. I guess there is something broken or loose then. Reason being.... when it's running the lever is constantly moving freely, hitting the housing while it is moving. Guess I'll have to check it out.
Thank you JR! :)
