Two questions...

1985 Force 125 o/b. When I squeeze the primer ball enough, gas starts to leak out of the carbs, what does this signify?

Also, I need a new tach (or so I think) i'm about ready to go check it out, but in the case I do need a new tach, where should I go about ordering one from? I have a part number and all, but not sure of any concrete places which will provide the best service. Thanks!!

Re: Two questions...

For the primer bulb, it sounds like a leak or a bad check valve. For the tach, I would recommend Iboats megamall, West Marine/Boat U.S., or Boater's World. Good luck!

Re: Two questions...

The fuel com9ing out of the carbs means that there is something holding the needle open or the needle and seat are worn. Im not really sure about the tach but someone else may be able to help.

What will I need to do to fix the leak in the carbs?

Re: Two questions...

Also, are all boat tachometers the same? In the one I have now, there are 4 wires going in to the back of it, is that the same with all other tachs? I don't want to end up buying a tach that won't wire up to my original. Thanks!

Re: Two questions...

So how has that boat/motor been running for you?
Have you had it out a few times yet?
Just curious.

Yea, i've only taken the boat out once since i've had it. I've been repairing the floor. It can get up to 30 MPH without any problems, but that's where it stops. Threw a new battery in, and it starts quite easily. It stalls out every once in a while when shifting from neutral to forward. It just seems like there is a lot of drag. It also pulls to the right really bad. I could let go of the wheel and it will turn itself completely right.

I have the same engine on a 19ft Spectrum. It has the serious torque steer to the right also.I have found that if it is trimmed out perfectly it will get almost to neutral steering when underway. Hope that helps.

Re: Two questions...

You will need to disassemble carbs and inspect the needle and seat for dirt holding it open, if no dirt replace the needles and seats.

Also make sure you have the floats set correctly if set too high you can get gas out of carb throats.

Re: Two questions...

Should I just buy a whole carb rebuild kit while i'm doing that? I assume it's mostly gaskets that come with the carb rebuild kit. I CAN take it in to a shop, which will get it done correctly, but that will cost around 400 bucks, the shop says. Also, they said I need a new water pump because I told them the boat has been sitting for 7 years. But the boat had a full runthrough of new parts when they took it out of the water for the last time, I installed a new impeller, and the waterpump sucks water up through the engine fine. Any thoughts?

And as far as trim goes, I have always thought, and here is my novice side showing through) that you were supposed to have the engine fully trimmed down as far as it could go. Should I play with the trim to find out a perfect spot for it? Even if it's not all the way down?

Re: Two questions...

If you are mechanical at all you can redo one of these carbs they are very simple, you have a manual dont you? Carb kits are cheap. Yes play with the trim, I have a boat right now that runs better with the trim up. You also need that tach to tell how fast the motor is turning, it should be turning about 5000 to 5500 at wot. By the way the torque steer is because the prop turns that way.

Yep, i've got a manual, as long as I don't get tied up rebuilding the carbs, I don't want to break anything though. What kind of kit do I want to get? Just a normal rebuild kit? Do they sell them here on iBoats? Thanks for all the help!

Re: Two questions...

I like to get factory oem parts for things like carbs. Just my preference.
