two questions

I am slowly working on my motor. '94 115hp Johnson. It's been running rough but it had some old gas in it. I have removed some of the old gas and replaced it with new fuel along with two Johnson additives. My questions are really getting ahead of the game since I sitll need to determine if I will need carb rebuild etc.

However...I would like to know the following:

what should be WOT on this motor? 17.5' Seaswirl striper, two people on board, full tank of fuel, three series 27 batteries.

what kind of mileage should I expect out of this motor when properly tuned and set up. Also, what would be "cruising speed" and what is projected MPG at that speed?

Thank you all. I'll keep you posted as I continue to work on motor.

Mirko

Re: two questions

Mirko - If your motor has been running rough and you have old gas you should think about rebuilding the carbs whether you think they need it or not. They are not difficult and the kits are not expensive - good insurance.

Your WOT rpm should be 5,500 I think. That is what my 110s call for.

Why three batteries - that is a lot of weight.

A wild guess on the speed would be 35 mph swinging a 19" prop @ 4800 rpm. I think the rule of thumb for fuel consumption is 1 gallon per hour per 10 hp at cruise.

Re: two questions

I got the factory manual and rebuilding the carbs seems like something I could do. I'm concerned about getting them in synch and tweeked afterwards. As to the three batteries, one is starting, one is house and one in front dedicated to the trolling motor. Battery failure gets me really paranoid. I figure one of the three should always work. I bought all three new after getting the boat...like I said, it makes me paranoid. :)
