Two stroke not smoking

Refer to my post "Optimax not running right" for further info.

In the process of figuring out a problem with boat I cleaned oil resevoir and engine oil tank on 225 opti and put in new oil. First thing I noticed when running on muffs is that the engine smoked. I had not seen that before and it suddenly hit me that I should have. Two strokes should smoke a little, shouldn't they?

Since mine did not I'm wondering if, as at least part of the problem, the fact that there was absolutely no sign of smoke - though it was obviously using some oil - might mean that it was not getting enough oil.

Any thoughts?

yeah you didn't bleed the oil pump. the lines are airbound. oil pumps don't suck air.
i hope your running premix at the same time your messing with your oiling system.
You really really need to shell out the 70 bucks and get a Mercury factory service manual and read it completely before you go messing with anything else. Seloc manuals don't cut it.

Re: Two stroke not smoking

I have a Merc manual and it explained that, when refilling oil, put oil in engine oil container and resevoir, leave cap off of engine container, and run in idle until oil overflows and then replace cap. It didn't say anything about bleeding air from anything. But what you say sounds right though I don't know how to bleed air from pump.

I now have motor at Merc. They said they will address issue tomorrow. Will let you know results.
