Re: Two Stroke Oil

Hi Anita.

It seems to me that oil rated TCW3 (Two Cycle, Water cooled) should be good for any water cooled 2 stroke engine.

TCW3 oil should not be used in air cooled 2 strokes or any 4 stroke engine.

Both PWCs and outboard engines come in 2 and 4 stroke versions, and there are some small outboards that are air cooled, both 2 and 4 stroke.

If you can be more specific with your question, perhaps we can give you a more specific answer.

Good luck :)

Re: Two Stroke Oil

I've got an Evinrude 155, Always used the standard marine TW3.
Welp the X has a container of the Rotax jetski type oil. He wants to toss it into the oil injection system. Yikes that scares me. It looks a bit thinner. No color.
Just hoping that were ok with this.

Hi Anita.

If it says TCW-3 on the container there should be no problem. If not, don't use it.

Good luck. :)

Re: Two Stroke Oil

Your talking one container?
Throw it in the garbage! Are you willing to risk the motor for oil that might work. Go ahead mix it with the good stuff and see if maybe you can get towed back when the engine blows. Sounds like russian rulette! :D
Just kidding man! I would not sub an inferior oil for what I know works unless it became extinct or I'm out on the water with no oil and this is all I got!
Good Luck ;)

Re: Two Stroke Oil

Most of the time, "jetski" oil is not TC-W3 rated. Jetskis, due to short periods of high speed runs and constantly varying speeds, compared to long periods of running on outboards, require metallic additives in the oil. These additives leave deposits that can cause damage to an outboard. By the same token, outboard oil can cause problems in "jetskis". That is why Yamaha, and others, have 2 oils, one for jetskis (2W) and another for outboards (2M).
