Two thrust hubs?

My first post here....

I recently purchased my first boat, a 1990 Sea Ray with Mercruiser Alpha One outdrive and the 3.0 4-cyl motor. In the process of removing the prop while going through the outdrive I noticed what appeared to be TWO thrust hubs. One is painted black and stamped 77987, the other is brass, slightly smailler diameter and stamped 12-835467-1. The brass one was against the prop, but they both seem to fit the prop equally well, though the black one is slightly larger in diameter on the front side.

The prop is a Mercury 832832A45P21, whatever that means.

I am the second owner and have no idea of the kind of use or maintennace the previous owners gave it, other than there is evidence that it was a saltwater boat.

Thanks all in advance for any light you may shed.

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:) The number on the prop is the OEM part number of the prop. The prop is a black max 14.25 diameter with a pitch of 21 made by Mercruiser.

You should only be using one thrust hub with that prop. The correct thrust hub to be using is the Mercruiser part number 12-835467-1.

Item numbers 79 - 82 is the list of parts and the order they should go in. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=120&bdesc=GEAR+HOUSING(PROPELLER+SHAFT)+-+MR Hope you get it all figured out, good luck.:)

Thank you for clearing that up and the time you put into it, as well as the link to the parts diagram.

I cannot imagine why someone would put two thrust hubs behind the prop unless they had it re-propped and someone forgot to remove the other one.
