looking at the starboard side of the carb, there is teh linkage for the manual choke. it appears to have two small spring bosses to tie the linkage together, although my cheap@$$ clymer manual shows no spring... Does this require a small spring? any idea how beefy? is it an open-closed deal or does the tension rate matter?

also am i correct that the needle packings go - seal first , then plastic washer ,then nut?

Re: Type C carb help

Is it pure manual or manual with an electric solenoid for remotes?
(there's automatic ones with electric solenoids and without too..)

Actually, there's little difference between those two. Here's a pic of an solenoid equipped one:

I think that's the spring you're after there. It's pretty darn weak and made out of 0.022" stainless wire.

The pure manual carb doesn't have the choke solenoid & linkage, the bowl doesn't have the bosses for the solenoid, and the sprung brass piece is a little different. That's one from a manual carb sitting next to it.

EDIT: The red fiber washer, it's not the seat washer is it (for the needle & seat)?

And here's a better pic:
yeppers! thats the spring I dont have. any idea of the packing seal stacking order or my mysterious red fiber washer? its just s touch bigger than the packing washers...

I am begining to think it is an extra needle seat washer, as the needle, seat ,clip, and a nylon washer came in another bag from the rest of the kit.

I could be wrong, it is real close the the size of the packing washers, but why 1? could this be the low speed idle bushing my manual refers to that I cant seem to locate?

Re: Type C carb help

The manual says three packing rings for the high speed jet, and two for the idle. Some carburetors had a washer that went in the idle control too. The "bushing" is actually a threaded insert that the idle needle screws into, which is pressed into the carburetor. Normally it won't come out unless you really crank down on idle needle. Don't worry about it.

Oh, and it's not the one that goes over the main jet is it? (ie, seals between the bowl and main jet?)

That's it Paul, it's the seal washer that goes under the screw, for carb's with a fixed high speed jet.

Re: Type C carb help

wa scleaning the boat this morning getting ready to go fishing tommorrow and noticed a spot on the driveway under where the fuel line plugs in, gave the bulb a good squeeze and gas squirted out. I bet I was sucking air at WOT and that was my problem getting on a plane. I'll know for sure tommorrow...

Re: Type C carb help

A ?? pertaining to the small red washers....I just rebuilt a carb from a '61 75 hp johnson...the kit came with 4 fiber type washers. in the expl view it shows 4 pack/washrs per low idle needle, 2 red that were a bit oversized and 2 beige that fit right in the threaded hole.
I used the locking nut to set the 1st red down in the backed it out and dropped the 2 beige washers in then repeated the red washer/pack with the locking nut. Did I fowl this up or what??

"That's it Paul, it's the seal washer that goes under the screw, for carb's with a fixed high speed jet. " The kit I had recommended not to mess with the high speed jets unless necessary, what screw are you speaking of ?
