Hi there, I have a 55hp mechanical shift approx 1974 here. Is type C interchangeable with the Hi Vis type oil. I would imagine yes since they have the same gear sets but would like to hear from a pro. I knkow electric shift requires ONLY type C but the question is vise versa. Thanks in advance.

Use the HI-VIS in the 55 hp 1974 model.-----What is the model # as there was no 55 hp in 1974 I believe.

Yes, they are interchangeable for mechanical gearcases. In the years where electric shift was available OMC specified Type C in all their outboards, electric or mechanical.
