Should I apply a sealant or grease to both ends of the bellows before tightening to clamps?

My local shop does not seal them. I seal them with bellows sealant. Inexpensive piece of mind, you have it tore down so go that extra step

Is there a readily available sealant you can get at a auto parts store? The local marina isnt very good at carrying anything

Someone else will have to answer that one, I buy mine online and west marine locally here has it in stock.

Why do you want to use bellows adhesive? Mercruiser is the only one that uses it. I hate to count how many Volvo bellows I have changed over the years, and I never used bellows adhesive on any of them. Well, I did on one, the owner demanded it, so I put it on there for him.

Don, why is it that mercs do but vp doesnt?

Just how or why would I know that? Neither Volvo nor Mercruiser explain to me what they do or why they do it.
