U Joints Grease

Probably a stupid question, but I have to ask anyways. Do I need a special grease for the u-joints? I pulled the outdrive last night as I am replacing the lower shift cable and all the bellows. I see the grease zerks on the u-joints. Can I just use whatever grease I have in my grease gun or do I need something else. My question also applies to the gimbal bearing and all the other zerks on the outdrive.

hard to say. we don't know what kinda drive ya got?

if it's a mercruiser. there is special grease called ujoint and gimble brg. grease for just such application. that's what i use in my mercruiser.

that said. i would think any grease would be better than no grease... hum, where have i heard that before.....

Sorry for the lack of info. I have a Alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive.
