I have a Force, 4 hp outboard made by U S Marine. Can any one date it for me and get info on fuel mix ratio. Model 42F5A, Ser. # 1155 . I bought it at a garage sale a few years ago for a very small fee. Any ideal what the value is on it. It seems to run most of the time, but there are times when running across the lake that it wants to stop. Sometimes it just shuts down like someone hit the stop button. Pull the rope and it starts right up. It also smokes alot when running slow or when idle while warming up.

Hi Jeff<br /> Your motor is a 1985 model. Fuel mix is 50:1.

Well here it is, spring time and I can't get the darn thing started, again. Fresh fuel but just wont start. A shot of starting fluid gets it going for about 5 seconds, but I don't want to keep doing that. Any suggestions, Anybody. Thanks in advance..

Does this motor have a fuel pump ? The gas tank is mounted on top of the motor, I thought it was gravity fed, but hey, I'm no machanic. I did the starting fluid thing twice, I do know not to do it too many times. I don't have a manual on this motor, I guess I better get one. I wish I could get a motor that starts when I want it to and not when it wants to, that is with out spending a grand or two !!

well look at the fuel line comming out of the tank if it goes right to the carb it does not have a fuel pump. look for filters in the line. if there is none then its a carb problem you might get away with cleaning out the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carb. but if it was mine i would take it off and clean it out
