I am looking at getting a 2008 225 H.O. Evinrude Etec and notice there seems to be a price difference across the border. Does anyone know if a U.S. motor brought into Canada will be warranteed?
Also, what about the extended warrantee offered now?
If not, are there regional differences for better prices in Canada? I am smack in the middle of the country.

I would think the warrantee would be the same but less a consideration than the hastle of getting the motor across to Canada. The parent company is Canadian, so why not get it there? Here is the link to find your dealer:

Good point on the BRP thing, I guess with the Stars & Stripes on the motor I forgot it was Canadian and I believe there could be duty issues to bring something made here back, which would offset the price difference.
Anyone have any feedback on large dealers on the prairies in Canada that might have good prices?

There's been a lot of talk recently in eastern Canada about buying cars in the US and bringing em up due to the price difference. From what I read last week, some manufacturers will honor the warranty in Canada and some will not. So no idea, but it could be an issue. The fact BRP is Canadian could also make a diff.

I was talking to alot of the Evinrude dealers just yesterday at the Toronto boat show, and they are offering the US prices at par with the Canadian to prevent people from doing exactly what you are thinking of. Just talk to them, Im sure the ones in your area are doing the same. Bottom line, it will be MUCH less hassle for you to buy local than to cross border shop and deal with finicky warranty issues and border tariffs.

Good question. An answer a little off topic. One of our (US) customer's engine blew up while on a fishing trip to Canada. He purchased a replacement Yamaha engine there. It got registered there. When he returned to the US, he brought it to us for service. We were denied (stonewalled) on any warranty compensation up front from Yamaha for warranty work we did on the engine. It was not in their database. It was only with some pleading and lenthy discussions with someone in the home office in L.A., that we got it covered. This was a real hassle. Am not confident that they would cover any future warranty items, either. My nickel's worth on the subject is to make sure you cover all your bases before you buy. The cross border tarriffs are another thing to check carefully.

The US dollar is very week. I believe that within a few months it will be the other way around. It will be cheaper in Canada then the US

Re: U.S. Warrantee in Canada for ETec?

Thanks for all the help and comments guys. The comment on the U.S. customer experience is exactly why I want to make sure before I do anything. Also, very interesting about the Toronto boatshow feedback and really hope that might be the case here in Manitoba. The problem I have is there are not many dealers here and thus competition is not making it favorable for us consumers. My guess is TO or even maybe in AB or BC, where more dealers are presnt would help. Our boat show is not until the end of February, but my guess is there may only be a couple of OMC dealers there. I may use the comments of what is going on in TO to see what they say though. I know when I bought my boat a while back, the only way I got a deal was to get pricing from AB and go to a local dealer and say if you want my business, here is the price you need to work with.

That is exactly what you should do. When I said the money at par, I was referring to the price of the american motors, not the price of the dollar per se.

For the Evinrude ETEC 225 H.O. version, can anyone give me an idea on what would be a good deal? (realistic, not the best deal on the continent)
